Thanda Zulu Necklace with Crochet Clasp

Each necklace is handmade with pride by Zulu women in South Africa. Before the Thanda Zulu initiative, the artisans struggled for most of their lives to earn a sufficient income that would allow them to support themselves & their families. None of them believed they would ever be able to earn an income through a craft they loved, were skilled at, and could do from the comfort of their own homes.

However, with time, the women have grown in confidence to now call themselves artists and not just beaders. Today, they are tremendously proud of their work and are continually inspired to develop new designs with their own personal touches.

Because of the success of this initiative, many of the Zulu artisans are teaching their children how to bead so that they, too, can continue this unique craft and keep this tradition alive.
